Project description

The Virginia Social Studies Leaders Consortium (VSSLC) is developing a series of inquiry-based instructional resources aligned with the 2023 Virginia History and Social Science Standards of Learning. Building on a statewide curriculum guide created by VSSLC, this project focuses on designing model inquiries that integrate primary sources from the Library of Congress to support historical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and civic understanding.

Led by a team of curriculum leaders from across Virginia, the project will produce grade-band specific lessons that demonstrate effective strategies for using primary sources within inquiry-driven instruction. Each resource includes teacher-facing guidance and classroom-ready materials designed to help educators engage students in analyzing historical evidence and exploring compelling questions about the past.

All materials will be shared as open educational resources (OER) through the VSSLC website and the TPS Consortium Created Materials site, ensuring equitable and no-cost access for educators across Virginia and beyond.
