Organization description

The Western Illinois Museum is located in rural west central Illinois in the City of Macomb.  In 2002, the Museum opened its doors in a repurposed automobile garage one block south of the town’s historic square establishing an educational resource for the community. For over 20 years, the Museum has been the steward of the region’s history with a collection that reflects life in rural America. Using the collection to present exhibits and programs, the Museum strives to connect visitors to their history and culture.

Project description

Building Bridges to the Past: Teaching with Primary Sources and Public History Collaborations

Our Building Bridges to the Past and Public History Collaborations project utilizes primary sources as teaching tools to provide educators with the means to offer students a direct connection to historical events, voices, and perspectives that have shaped their community. Workshops and labs will be used to encourage educators to create public history projects with their students bridging the gap between the classroom and community and inspiring a collective sense of identity and heritage for all participants.
