STEM Stories- Using Primary Sources, Inquiry, and STEM for Elementary Science Education

With a grant through the Library of Congress Southern Region, we will develop three integrated curriculum resources for elementary learning. Botanical Explorations includes primary sources focusing on the Olmsteds, inquiry investigations on plant growth and development and human impact on plant environments, and a STEM project for engaging special needs in the natural environment. Electrical Explorations includes primary sources focusing on Edison, inquiry investigations on static electricity and current electricity, and a STEM project for designing a lighthouse that will turn on and off. Force and Motion Explorations involves primary sources focusing on Ringling and Ford, inquiry investigations on force and motion and Newton’s Laws of Motion, and a STEM project for designing a marshmallow catapult. 

We will provide modeling and teacher training for using the developed resources in the classroom, as well as present the materials at state and national education conferences.
