Project description

Project Title: Exploring Science and Mathematics with Library of Congress Resources

Regional in-service and pre-service teachers, in kindergarten through grade 8, will participate in professional development workshops which will focus on mathematics and natural science topics aligned with documents contained in the Library of Congress Digital Collections. Teachers will strengthen their academic preparation and prepare activities for student use, while better understanding the historical context for science and mathematics principles. Each teacher will write an action plan, for one activity for each workshop attended, to describe the integration of new material, including the Library of Congress resources, with current teaching practice. Identified mathematics topics include measurement, geometry, statistics, and problem solving. Identified science topics include Earth and space science and life science.
