Project description

“Indigenous and Latinx Delaware: Community Fellowship and Historical Inquiry.”

The University of Delaware History Department is partnering with community organizations throughout Delaware to provide this three-year series of professional development workshops for K-12 teachers. Educators participating in these workshops are creating lessons, projects and activities based on the content and concepts acquired at each workshop–including sources from the Library of Congress. They are united in the belief that inclusive and diverse histories must be taught in our schools in order to enable all of our students to flourish and grow.

We are in the third year of our grant. Year one focused on the Pre-Columbian era. Year two focused on post-contact to 1900. In Year three we are helping teachers bring the story of the experiences of Indigenous and Hispanic populations up to the present—especially in this region.
