Organization description
We are a public 9-12 secondary/high school located in Uniondale, New York, on Long Island in the NYC Metropolitan area.
Project description
This project will provide professional development that enhances teachers’ ability to integrate digitized primary sources from the Library of Congress into instruction. Professional development providers include Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History, the College Board, and Nassau BOCES, the Long Island regional arm of the New York State Education Department. The project has budgeted time for teachers to collaborate on curriculum using primary source materials. In addition, it will pay for three teachers to attend two Library of Congress two-day professional development sessions. Further, it will pay for six teachers of secondary social studies to attend the annual meeting of the National Council for the Social Studies to get ideas and inspiration. Project materials developed through this project will be distributed in a number of ways. Firstly, it will be shared with all Uniondale faculty on a district shared Google drive to ensure long-lasting use and accessibility. In addition, it will be shared through the district relationship with Nassau BOCES, a regional arm of the NYS Education Department that supports the 56 districts in Nassau County. Teachers will also participate in the NY State Council of Social Studies conference and Long Island Council of Social Studies conferences to ensure they are up to date on all the latest information from the state and their colleagues to produce the best material.
