Organization description

Houston ISD is the largest public school district in the state of Texas. Secondary Social Studies Curriculum and Development serves teachers in the middle and high schools across the district, providing professional development, instructional coaching, and curriculum resources. This includes professional development and curriculum for the two Texas ethnic studies courses, African American Studies and Mexican American Studies.

Project description
Exploring Primary Sources in Ethnic Studies is a professional development program for secondary social studies teachers. Teachers participate in book studies over topics in African American and Mexican American Studies, work with historians and experts in the field through a teacher institute, and build primary source-based inquiry lesson plans over ethnic studies topics.
