Organization description

The mission of Experiencing America is to provide dynamic civic understanding, development, and engagement through the lens of historical events, places, people, and ideas for students, educators, and the community at large. We hope to become the destination for civic learning, through the lens of history, that will strengthen the American foundation so that all citizens can build their lives with purpose.

We provide experiences through workshops, institutes, and leadership camps. At Experiencing America through Troy University, we love to partner with other organizations to provide historical understanding that strengthens our civic foundation as a country.

Project description

Through art analysis, civics connections, and primary sources, participants explored how creative expression and civil discourse can open pathways to discuss multiple perspectives on America’s founding principles and ideals. In connecting with America’s 250th, teachers engaged in creative activities that will help their students critically reflect on the nation’s purpose, progress, and identity, while building skills for civil discourse that make history relevant and inclusive for all learners. Participants learned key strategies to bridge divides and foster meaningful dialogue by speaking across differences in their classrooms.
