Project description

Washtenaw County Underground Railroad & Anti-Slavery History Project

During the current school year, a cohort of 30 secondary educators from Ann Arbor Public Schools, Michigan will gather for workshops to learn about Underground Railroad and anti-slavery history in their county. During the project, participants will travel on a historian-guided bus tour of local historical sites, will collaborate with community and university historians and archivists, and will learn about core practices for teaching with historical sources. Educators will gain experience finding sources within digitized Library collections, selecting primary and secondary sources aligned to project topics, considering fair use and copyright, adapting sources for classroom use, evaluating sources using the TPS Primary Source Analysis Tool and Teacher Guides, and creating source sets that can support classroom instruction.
